Hey, look at who's back with a book review? Me! So, what finally snapped me out of my reading slump? Well, it was Murder Most Unladylike ! Let's hop on to the review now, shall we?
Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong set up the Wells and Wong Detective Society at their boarding school, Deepdean School for Girls. But, thing is, there are no exciting mysteries to investigate. Until Hazel stumbles upon the body of the Science Mistress, Miss Bell, in the gym. She rushes out, but when she comes back five minutes later, the body's disappeared. So now the girls have to solve a murder, and prove that there was a murder, all while keeping it a secret.
This book is actually set in the 1930s, and takes place, as mentioned, in a boarding school. So this story obviously gives me major Enid Blyton vibes! In case you didn't know, she's an amazing author! I'm planning on reading the Mallory Towers books soon, as a) a friend recommended them (you know who you are!), and b) I got it for my birthday!
Anyways, back to this story. It was fast-paced, and generally amazing. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next! It was so crazy! But, if you looked close enough, you could somewhat figure out the plot twists. They were still great, though. The only thing was the final who-is-it seemed a bit rush, at least for me. I don't know.
I loved the characters. They weren't that out of ordinary, Hazel and Daisy, but they were special in their own way. Daisy still feels like a mystery character, and I wonder how she seems to know everything thanks to her mysterious uncle. Maybe this will be explored in the later books in the series. I also liked the representation in the story, the fact that while it might not be perfect for everyone, it was there.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I know I say this practically every time, but it's true, I couldn't put this book down. Really excited to read the next in the series, and definitely recommend it for anyone who likes mysteries, or stories about boarding schools set in the early 20th century!
Ratings (by me):
Characters: 9/10 Plot: 9/10 Interest level (in general): 9/10
Woah, another blog post done! Anyways, before we wrap up, there's something really exciting I'd like to mention! So, a week or so ago, I made a certificate for my friends and family in their favorite colors (still haven't given them to everyone, yet, unfortunately).
Since it was my birthday this week, I thought I'd organize a fun giveaway! This is open to everyone, anywhere! And I'll try my best to give one to everyone! All you have to do is fill up this small form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdF2lpYHPMTHFLeEyRz9lwi6U5eIFqVGREnmm3dh9lziBafew/viewform?usp=sf_link , and bam, you're done! However, disclaimer that I might take time to send it to everyone, so yeah. Also, quick note that your email is only taken so I can send it, and I will not use it otherwise, as I value your privacy.
So, that's all for today! Have you read this book? If so, did you like it? If you didn't read it, are you interested to? Let me know in the comments, and I'll hopefully see you all next time!
