The title makes it obvious, right? Haha. I stole it from YouTube, as a bunch of people make videos with titles like this. So credit to them, as I don't know the original person who came up with it.
Anyways, enough stalling. Like I mentioned before, I really, really liked Cassandra Clare and Holly Black's The Magisterium Series. But if you've read my review on the City of Bones, you'll see my views aren't that high. However, I still wanted to give this series another try. One last chance.
I literally finished City of Ashes an hour or so ago (of when I'm writing this), so I should be able to write a quick review. Let's get on with it!
So, after a series of shocking events in the last book, Clary Fray is back! So are the rest of the Shadowhunters, and obviously Simon and Luke. Valentine, unfortunately, is also back, and these are dire times, as they are preparing for war. Well, not everyone. Power is a dangerous temptation. How far will people go for it? I'm so sorry, it's hard to say much about this book without spoiling anything from the last one!
Anyhow, this book was definitely a lot better than the first one, that's for sure. The characters were more developed, though I wish there was more focus on Clary. There were some big plot twists. The pacing and descriptions were great as usual. And remember how last time my biggest complaint was how freaking annoying Jace was? Well, turns out he's not always that annoying. He can be funny, actually. Plus, there's more explanation behind why he is like he is. So yeah.
Does that mean I don't have any complaints about this book? Obviously not! I'm too much of a judgmental person for that! Anyways, I wasn't really interested in the activities or events of the story, or invested in the characters. I'll explain. Stories can be of many types, including character-driven and plot-driven. But whatever the case is for this book (at this rate I'm not really sure honestly), I didn't really read this book because I wanted to find out what happened next. At least not most of the time. I read it because it felt like something I had to do, not to enjoy the experience. I was racing to finsih the book, not to find out what happens next, but to say I had read this book. You know? But that may be just for me.
Anyways, I'll probably read the rest in the series. But probably very slowly, and no promises. So yeah. I know this was pretty short. But that's all for today. Did you read this book? Are you interested in reading it? Let me know in the comments, and hopefully I'll see you all next week, bye!
